Rosie named 'worst looking' in HDTV

Now, recently I've fallen in love with HDTV and absolutely hate watching regular television for a number of reasons, but it just might be that HD isn't perfect.d

"Rosie O'Donnell has been named the "worst-looking celebrity" in high-definition television, according to Phillip Swann of the industry Web site TVPredictions.com. Swann says Rosie "looks like she uses a Brillo pad" to wash her face."

Symantec admits its Mac OS X spyware prediction was wrong

Turns out Mac users are just as safe as ever. Anyone surprised that a security company falsely claims that security is needed? Nope.

"18 months ago Symantec said: "Mac OS is increasingly becoming a target for the malicious activity that is more commonly associated with Microsoft" but on Wednesday it quietly admitted the prediction was wrong."

X06: Doom on Xbox Live Arcade

I have to admit that I have not taken full advantage of the Xbox Live Arcade and have mostly just mooched the free demos. That totally changed today. I bought Doom for 800 points and have LOVED playing this old game that I was big into back in middle school.

X06: Doom on Xbox Live Arcade: "DOOM (X360)Microsoft snags another true classic."

There are some pretty cool shots in here. I especially like the photos of the dog shot with the macro flash on page 2. I think I need one of those...

Apple debuts Aperture 1.5 at Photokina

So here's some fun news. I think a lot of the updates are really well done and will hopefully make the application run a bit smoother. What I was reallying hoping for in this morning's news was an updated MacBook Pro. That can't be far away though. It is sad that most pc laptop makers have Intel Core 2 Duo chips in their machines and Apple doesn't. They're now more than a few weeks (it's months now) behind. This is diappointing!!

Apple debuts Aperture 1.5 at Photokina: "Ahead of the Photokina tradeshow in Germany, Apple has announced a new version of Aperture, its professional digital photography workflow solution. Aperture 1.5 is a major update to the all-in-one post production tool for photographers that delivers ..."

New Metal Gear Solid 4 in 1080p and... they're kinda disappointing

I wouldn't say I'm entirely disappointed, but I'm not impressed at all. The textures are good, but the lighting and particle effects are down right bad. Plus, it's on a system that will cost $600!!! I think I'll stick with my Xbox 360 and pick up a Wii for $250 for now. If the PS3 drops $300 in price, then we'll talk.

"While the character models look fantastic, the environment textures look far worse than what's been previously shown. Can Hideo and his team improve them before it's released?"

Why Not One Hundred MPG?

Here's a good article from Popular Mechanics about a 100 mpg car. It's possible, but not highly profitable. Bummer...

So the question remains: Could manufacturers deliver a practical car that a typical American family could use as daily transportation, getting 100 mpg or better on every single trip? We asked some of the most inventive engineering minds in the country. We looked at designs, materials and drivetrains. The answer? Yes, it can be done.

Gonna Brag a Little

So, I've been sending photos to the AP for just a few weeks and regularly have things picked up on the national wire. I found out yesterday that I have been awarded the South Dakota Associated Press Photo of the Month for August 2006. Not too shabby I thought. :)

Apple's Chief Designer, Jonathan Ive, iin Business Week

Being big on things that work properly and a stickler for funcitonality and beauty I love Jonathan Ive's work. I also love Apple, but there might be a long cause and effect discussion here that I'm too tired for. Jonathan Ive is responsible for things like the iPod, iPod Nano, all the iMacs, and MacBooks. He, and his team, do amazing work taking things that, until they got to work, were ugly and beige.

"Who Is Jonathan Ive? An in-depth look at the man behind Apple's design magic"

'Borat' the year's most offensive masterpiece

Jagshemash!
If you haven't seen the trailers yet go to Apple.com/trailers and search for Borat. This is going to be hillarious!

This year you are not going to find a more appalling, tasteless, grotesque, politically incorrect or slanderous film than "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." You probably won't laugh as hard all year either.

Sticking with Wii news for a while, I thought I'd post this. Not a terrible deal. For $250 you get a cool console that is backwards compatible with the Gamecube, has all kinds of neat multimedia features, cool games, a unique control concept, and sports kit included! Not to mention the ability to download and play 20 years worth of Nintendo and Sega games!

Couple of guys playing the new boxing game in Wii Sports. Looks fun.

Well the cat is officially out of the bag. The Nintendo Wii will cost US gamers $250 on November 19, 2006. That is AFTER the Sony PS3 will be released. Nintendo Europe Hypes Wii Day

So it has been known that Sept. 14, 2006 the big N is holding large press conferences all over the world. Rumors are circulating that they will be releasing the date and price of the Wii as well as showing off new toys. Other rumors claim that they may even be as bold as to release the Wii THAT DAY in a major surprise.

Now that would be a TON of fun as it hasn't been done by an major video game producer. Usually buyers will know for months when and how much. We know neither.

Both Sony and Microsoft announced the price and release date at the E3 before their Fall releases. Nintendo has been very Apple-like in keeping things "close to the vest" as Steve Jobs would say. If they continue with their Apple ways it could be Friday for the Wii around the world. Apple has done it and will probably do it tomorrow (they're having a press conference Sept. 12, 2006 at 10am PST.)

So, keep your fingers crossed. It could be just a few hours Nintendo fanboys! Get your credit cards ready!

It doesn't take a genius to see what's coming. Apple has been rumored to be prepping a movie store to compliment the iTunes Music Store. This looks like it will be it.

September 14/15, Worldwide Wii Day

Looks like the big N has some big news! Here's hoping for a Wii release around the same time as the Tokyo Game Show (Sept. 22-24.)

"Nintendo is inviting Japanese press to a special event on September 14th, Nintendo of America is also inviting American press to an event on the 14th, and Nintendo is also holding a similar event in Europe on 9/15. Each will be showing off region specific games, and with hopes all of Nintendo's cards will be shown....mark your calenders!"
