The iPhone Line in the Rosedale Center (UPDATE)

Pizza from Mark...fellow line waiter. Apple passed out more water and coffee. Godiva passed out coupons for samples. The store manager Brent Blevens passed out cards to insure that if you have issues that you can come back to the store to get help just after the iPhone Tickets were passed out. Take a look at the stack of the 4gb and 8gb cards combined for a smaller store. We're in good shape. Also, of an interesting note...almost everyone I can spot is getting 2! People are getting them for husbands/wives, friends (Sam,) or eBay.

The iPhone Line in the Rosedale Center

So I'm in line for the Apple iPhone at the Apple Store in the Rosedale Center in Roseville, MN. The store is just down the street from my house. I arrived at around 2:30 and I'm around 40-50th in line. We haven't done a count.

When I arrived the store was completely covered (see photo.) Rumors are circling about the RSS reader, custom ringtones from your own music and even that the first 50 people to buy the iPhone at each Apple Store will get a free gift.

Apple previously has given away goodies like t-shirts all the way up to airport base stations at the opening of their stores. Let's hope that this is true and I'm not person 51!

Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace

Well-to-do, stable American teens with "good prospects" end up on Facebook, while poor, queer, marginal and non-white teens end up on MySpace (even in the military, grunts are on MySpace and officers are on Facebook -- guess which one the military banned!)

Resolved: Lincoln debaters are No. 1

Sioux Falls LHS Team is No. 1 in the country

A good article from Jon Walker, a good guy, about the Lincoln High School debate team. What I found interesting is that the competition isn't an annual deal, but that your scores from the past are part of the ranking. This means that a school has to have a long standing commitment to the event and not just a good year like in Basketball or most other competitions.

Woman dies in ER lobby as 911 refuses to help
I caught this on the news last night and recalled my visit to the ER when I was in my car accident in February. I wasn't seriously injured so I took the bottom of the priority list, which was fine, but the waiting room had 3 people in it. I'm not sure what was going on behind the scenes, but after 4.5 hours I had finally been checked out and checked off.

"LOS ANGELES - A woman who lay bleeding on the emergency room floor of a troubled inner-city hospital died after 911 dispatchers refused to contact paramedics or an ambulance to take her to another facility, newly released tapes of the emergency calls reveal."

Hilton's parents visit, raise questions - Yahoo! News
Trying to keep up on Paris? No, me neither, but I can't avoid it. It's on all the websites and TV stations...anyways, more special treatment for the Hilton family. Go figure.

"LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton's parents visited their daughter after breezing past others waiting to see loved ones — an incident that raised new complaints that the heiress is receiving special treatment."

Official Google Reader Blog: Today's outage

Official Google Reader Blog: Today's outage

Great job Google!! All of my info came back w/o a hitch.

"This afternoon we experienced a brief outage, during which about half our users seemed to lose their subscriptions. This can happen when one of the many complex systems that power Google Reader experiences a glitch. We work hard to avoid problems of any kind, but occasionally something like this happens. The good news is that no data was actually lost, it was just temporarily inaccessible. Google's systems store data redundantly to minimize the chance of anything becoming permanently lost.
We were able to identify, diagnose, and fix today's outage within an hour, which is the kind of response time that we strive for. We'll continue give quick status updates to problems like this in the future so users who have trusted us with their data can feel comfortable doing so."

Blame coal: Texas leads carbon emissions

Blame coal: Texas leads carbon emissions

This is fun. Surprising as it may be, thinking of the governor they've had in the past it's not THAT shocking.

"America may spew more greenhouse gases than any other country, but some states are astonishingly more prolific polluters than others — and it's not always the ones you might expect.

The Associated Press analyzed state-by-state emissions of carbon dioxide from 2003, the latest U.S. Energy Department numbers available. The review shows startling differences in states' contribution to climate change."
