85 yr old man still leasing his 1952 phone from AT&T

The 85 year old man has been paying his phone bill. No big deal. Though, since 1952 he as been leasing a phone from AT&T for $4.42 on top of his phone bill. Doing the math you get roughly $2900 for the phone. His niece managed to figure it out and bought him a $7 wall phone...but will AT&T give him his money back? Basically, check your bills because they'll tack things on and they may never go away.

Apple: $818m in profit, record 1.76m Macs

MacNN | Apple: $818m in profit, record 1.76m Macs: "Apple said it shipped 1,764,000 Macs, representing 33 percent growth over the year-ago quarter and exceeding the previous company record for quarterly Mac shipments by over 150,000. What surprises me on this one is how fast iPods are still selling! Almost 10 Million?! Wow.

This is wonderful. Get the point that not teaching people how to do something doesn't mean they won't do it. "Science has been canceled because your parents prefer to believe in magic."

Instead of textbooks, Hammond has been assigning journal articles and other reading materials that his students can check out from the library or download from the internet, a practice which, if every one of their professors did it, would save students (on average) $900 a year.

PalmAddicts: Which is more expensive: a free Treo 680 or an iPhone?

PalmAddicts: Which is more expensive: a free Treo 680 or an iPhone?

"The cheapest plan for the Treo 680 is $40/month for 450 rollover minutes and $40/month for unlimited data. The cheapest 8GB SDHC card I could find on Amazon.com was $75 and several were over $100. Let’s call it $80 with shipping to give us a nice round number while being slightly biased towards keeping the the Treo costs low. 4GB SDHC cards were about $55 plus shipping, let’s call it $60 (and before you ask, neither of the cards I looked at qualified for Amazon’s free shipping)."

When you do the math it turns out the iPhone is a value compared to a Treo...take a look!

Half of Americans support dual impeachment proceedings

45% say get rid of Bush and 54% support the same for Cheney. This is coming from Time so it's not some lame poll, but I'd still look skeptically at it.

Mac Rumors: AT&T Activation Delays for iPhone Buyers

Mac Rumors: AT&T Activation Delays for iPhone Buyers: "According to Reuters sources, approximately 2% of individuals who purchased the iPhone over the weekend have been affected by the activation problems. "

So, just to let you all know that it isn't a HUGE problem. 2% of 500,000 is a lot of people, but it isn't a rampant problem. This happened with the Xbox 360 as well. People thought everyones Xboxs were breaking, but what was really happening is those noisy gears were the only ones squeaking online...everyone was playing games just like everyone else now is making calls, listening to music and searching for the nearest Starbucks. :)

iPhone Activation Successful

So I keep hearing about these iPhone activation issues, and I keep wondering, "How dumb are people?!" About a week before the launch Apple released a video walking you through literally 100% of the activation process.

"Now I'm going to use a Mac, but it works the same on a PC." I did use a Mac just like the video and my setup couldn't have been smoother. I was actually amazed that it was so quick and painless. Before I went to wait in line I got all of the information the video said I would need (Name, SSN, if you're transferring you need your number, account number and billing zip code.) I followed the steps and entered information in the right fields and boom! It was perfect. In fact, when I was activating I actually used the back button more than once to double check my information and it never lost anything I had entered on the screens ahead or behind. I was able to make my change and then push finish. It was perfect.

So....basically what I'm saying is RTFM and follow directions! It worked just fine for me.

Kodak demolishes building, cameras still kinda suck

Here's a surprise...this company has been hurting for about 7 years now. If they quit making cheap (not inexpensive,) plastic, fisher-price toy cameras that shatter and take crap photos maybe they would be doing better...? What do I know about the camera business though?! ;)
